About Fort Firefly
A Place Where Children Thrive and Families Are Supported
Fort Firefly is the first early learning center created by AlliancEdu, designed to serve children from birth through age five. Located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Fort Firefly was built to support the families who power our nation’s readiness — those who serve in uniform, those who have served, and those who sustain mission-critical operations through defense and emergency response.
These families do not operate on a traditional schedule. Early mornings, late nights, rotating shifts, deployments, and drill weekends are part of daily life. For veterans and defense-connected families, the transition to civilian roles often still carries the same unpredictability, with work that remains essential to national security and community stability. Yet childcare systems have not been built with these realities in mind.
Fort Firefly was created in direct response to that gap, providing dependable, high-quality early learning aligned with the rhythms of service and the demands of mission-driven work.
By combining nurturing classrooms, skilled educators, and a schedule designed for real family needs, Fort Firefly offers a safe, engaging environment where children can grow, explore, and build the foundations for lifelong learning — while their families continue to serve, support, and strengthen our nation.
Our Approach to Early Learning
Fort Firefly follows a Reggio-inspired approach to early childhood education, which views children as capable, curious learners who construct knowledge through exploration and relationships.
In this model, the classroom environment, the teacher, and the child all work together to create meaningful learning experiences. Our classrooms are intentionally designed to encourage children to investigate ideas, ask questions, collaborate with peers, and interact with materials that spark curiosity.
Teachers guide learning through hands-on experiences, thoughtful observation, and intentional interaction that supports each child’s development.
Through this approach, children develop:
-
confidence and independence
-
language and communication skills
-
problem-solving abilities
-
social and emotional awareness
Our goal is to ensure every child leaves Fort Firefly ready for their next stage of learning.
Designed for Military, First Responders, and Workforce Families
Fort Firefly was intentionally created to support families whose work keeps our communities functioning.
Many of the families we serve include:
-
military service members and veterans
-
first responders, including police, fire, and EMS personnel
-
workforce families whose jobs require early mornings, evenings, or rotating schedules
Reliable childcare is essential for these families. Fort Firefly provides a consistent, nurturing environment where parents can pursue their work knowing their children are safe, supported, and learning.

A Community Partnership
Fort Firefly exists because communities recognized a growing need for childcare that supports military, first responder, and workforce families.
AlliancEdu works with community leaders, employers, and philanthropic partners to expand access to high-quality early childhood education in areas where childcare shortages are most severe.
Together, we are building a model that strengthens families, supports the workforce, and gives children a strong start.

Looking Ahead
Fort Firefly is the first of several early learning centers planned across Arkansas. Each site will be intentionally located in communities where military families, first responders, and workforce parents face limited childcare options.
By expanding access to dependable early childhood education, AlliancEdu is working to ensure that families can pursue their work with confidence and that children have the opportunity to thrive from the very beginning.
